Nikitta Horsford is a bright bubbly 17 year old girl who recently joined TARDISS. On 27th and 28th July, Nikitta along with over 800 other students from 83 schools from as far north as Weipa south to Sarina and west to Mt Isa competed in The Challenge Games held at The Townsville Sports Reserve.

The Challenge Games gives students with a broad range of disabilities a chance to get out there and give sport a go . It’s not about winning it’s about participation, laughter, friendships, smiles and most importantly having fun.

Nikitta has attended The Challenge Games for 7 years with this year being the first year Nikitta was unable to walk due to a recent surgery, so with the help of her wonderful support worker Carina, Nikitta was able to compete in events such as frisby, shotput and vortex throwing. Nikitta’s highlight this year was the races as she proudly sat in her wheelchair with a huge smile on her face while Carina pushed her up the track to cheering and clapping from friends and strangers.

The Challenge Games also offers the opportunity for aspiring athletes like Nikitta to obtain a Australian paralympic track and field classification if they wish to persue the possibility of one day being a member of the Australian paralympic team.

Unfortunately this was Nikitta’s last year competing at The Challenge Games as she is in her final year of schooling, but Nikitta will take away lots of memories of fun, laughter and friendships to cherish forever.
