The Tardiss Difference

Tardiss is a small not-for-profit community based organisation which is registered to provide services under the Federal Government’s ‘National Disability Insurance Scheme’ (NDIS) and the Queensland Government’s ‘Your Life Your Choice‘ (YLYC). We also have the ability to work with privately funded participants.

Tardiss provides services to Townsville, Charters Towers and Mount Isa, with capacity to work with participants across the north.

Tardiss is different because we do things differently. For example one of our quadriplegic participants realised his dream of flying in a Microlight Aircraft. We strapped him into the aircraft with 2″ Velcro and off he went into the sky.  On his return he had tears of joy as he was lifted from the craft, this is something he thought he would never do in a million years.

Tardiss is different because we put ‘you’ the participant and your family first, not finances. We want to help you achieve your goals and aspirations, and turn your dreams into reality.

Tardiss is different because we match support workers with participants by ensuring we employ the right people for the job in the first place.

Tardiss is different because we make you the focus of any service provision. You have the power of choice in any decision making.

We are small, with a huge heart. We have lived and breathed the philosophy of the NDIS and YLYC for our entire existence. Please read our Story to see why!

“Tardiss is proud of our history of being a small North Queensland community not-for-profit service provider where the clients come first, second and third.  If the NDIS gets this right, if we get a system where the participant and their family are given control and respect… turning the entire system on its head could be worth it.  Your Life Your Choice and the National Disability Insurance Scheme align perfectly with our Tardiss values.”  Alec McConnell, Manager, Tardiss

Chairman of the Board Andy Gifford says “We are a small organisation and very efficient.   We don’t have a huge bureaucracy which takes forever to get a decision made.  We are not a top heavy organisation so decisions get made very quickly.”

The Board of Management is made up of individuals with many differing skill sets, including business, finance, governance and medicine, with participant representation also on the board. This is a very cohesive group with a passion for seeing services delivered on a participant focused basis.

Tardiss-32Tardiss is in a great position to help participants in the disability sector who have not received the best service in the past and those that have not received any service at all. Tardiss is accredited under the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JASANZ) Human Quality Framework.

With the rollout out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, TARDISS will have great opportunities to provide service to participants through the north. Tardiss is small and therefore flexible.  Its size makes it more nimble and responsive to a participant’s needs and desires.
